One of our favorite pieces to look at everyday is David Fullarton’s Artist Statement. It is amusing, humorous, though-provoking and surprising. In this collage, we often debate, amongst the team, what our favorite part is but it changes everyday for us because we discover something that we did not notice before.
David Fullarton is a Scottish born, San Francisco based artist. He keeps notebooks filled with scraps of paper, scribbled phrases and other ephemera that he incorporates into his artwork. These elements represent the often overlooked stuff of daily life, which is the root of Fullarton’s inspiration. He sees beauty in the ways people manage to find joy and meaning in the minutiae. The artist paints vibrantly complex canvases whose elements jumble and mix together in a fast facsimile of modern life. Fullarton compliments these with smaller mixed media drawings on paper. These paperworks are sometimes the genesis of the finished paintings, but are more often stand-alone vignettes featuring forlorn characters who find themselves in compromising situations. More examples of his work can be found at www.davidfullarton.com.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out “The City”, David’s pieces definitely should be motivating you to come down to 1:AM gallery. If you want to be lame, we guess you can check out his art on our flickr.
