Facebook Tearin’ it Up on 6th and Howard!

Facebook drip!

With one man down and another member swamped in meetings, the 5 remaining Facebook crew members continued forward on their quest to learn about graffiti art. Led by General Amber S., they made it to the corner of 6th and Howard to partake in a bit of aerosol action at 1AM gallery

History of Graffiti, Mural Walk Tour, Stenciling Tees, to Mural Production: the Facebook team met every activity with spunk, vigor and might! They were complete graffiti naturals, taking to the spray can like pros and blasting a dope mural on the wall.

Thanks for being such a cool and fun group to work with Facebook. Welcome to the wonderful world of graffiti, and come back to the gallery any time! Click here to check out more of their workshop’s pics!

Agents of After School Artistry

Galileo student getting down!

Last month, 1:AM had the honor of being asked to host a 2-part, after school graffiti workshop at San Francisco’s very own Galileo high school! We pounced on the opportunity to work with kids and help beautify a school. Really, how often does one get the request to spray a mural inside of a school, and to top it all off, alongside part of the student body

After school session #1: The Galileo team, comprised of 8 Galileo students and led by teachers Nate1 and Mario, took to the practice boards eagerly.  At the beginning of the workshop, everyone’s spraying skills varied across the board(pun intended),

but at the end of session #1, the students were fading and spraying their own letters and characters like it was no one’s business! Needless to say, 1:AM instructors Nate1 and Mario were impressed.

After school session #2: THE MURAL!  A handful of passionate, student artists spent some time sketching out concepts for the wall and presented them during the workshop.  We were all blown away by the creativity and talent that these students have.

Using some of the elements from their pieces, the whole team came together to create a mural for their after school room.  They came up with a dope mural that shows love for our wonderful city, and school pride.

Shout out to to Lee for contacting 1:AM about hosting a workshop at Galileo, our fresh teachers Nate1 and Mario, and last but not least, a shout out to the remarkably creative and inspiring kids at Galileo for making this mural possible.  You guys were a true pleasure to work with! Keep on drawing and painting!

If you’re interested in having a graffiti workshop for your school/team/business or want us to paint a mural for you, please contact Class Director Gina at: gina@1amsf.com

Microsoft: Hittin’ the Streets!

Large companies such as Nike and Sony often utilize the talent of graffiti artists for marketing purposes.  The company’s executives form creative strategies that are intended to broadcast their corporation through forms of street art. Most say this style of advertising attempts to reach a hip, urban dwelling audience.  A few years ago, Microsoft adopted this idea and began getting up in the streets of San Francisco. The company hired graffiti artists to paint legal pieces in the city that were intended to promote the launch of “Windows 7.” Here are some flicks of the corporate bombing at its finest:

In more recent times, San Francisco residents may have encountered some of Microsoft’s newest advertisements quite literally on the streets.  Representatives at Microsoft have admitted to stenciling messages onto the sidewalks of select neighborhoods in order to promote the release of “Windows Phone 7.” The Microsoft stencils could be found on busy sidewalks along Valencia Street and 19th Avenue.  It’s not known what these corporate vandals used to hit up their stencils but they seemed to endure the wettest of elements.  San Francisco city officials responded to these acts angrily and explained that Microsoft never received permits to use the stencils. Microsoft simply received a slap on the hand for the guerilla-style marketing and has been ordered to remove the illegal advertisements.

KEB from “Outside In”, up closer and more personal

Keb’s presence can be felt at 1AM 24/7,  365 days a year.   His masterful street productions are constantly evolving and viewable just across the street from 1AM.  The energy of his street art leaps off those walls and hits us like a sucker punch everyday.  We have the pleasure of getting even more up close and personal with his work as he is featured in 1AM’s “Outside In” exhibition and in the San Francisco Chronicle’s “96 Hours”.

Putting in extensive work at 1AM

To make a stylized masterpiece on four different canvases (inquire for availability and/or purchase)

For a glimpse of Keb’s SF street work, here is a collab with two other “Outside In” artists Wand and Buter
