1AM x Custom Toy Show
We interviewed curator Manny Rivas (a.k.a. mANNEe) from “MOST WANTED” to get some background on the show, insight on the toy community and the inside scoop on what will be happening in the future! I’ll tell you already, it’s exciting:
What are your thoughts about the toy community/Kidrobot forum group?
It’s like the wild west over there! Dunnys are king and customizers are worshiped like freakin’ Picasso, haha. Seriously though, it’s an amazing community. Packed full of some of the most hardcore fans and some of the illest talent around, the Kidrobot boards are legendary. I remember getting schooled on more than one occasion when I first joined back in ’07, but it’s helped me get to where I am with all the projects I’m currently working on. Plus I’ve made some great friends along the way. It’s a great place to get a feel for the designer toy community and see what all the hype is about.
Will there be more series?
Indeed there will be. MW3 is our latest installment which is yet to be released. We’re pushing for a release date towards the end of June. This is definitely a series you don’t want to miss as it’s only going to get more limited from here on out. Plus MW1 & MW2 both sold out in a matter of seconds, so follow us on our twitter page @MWSERIES3 & blog (www.mostwanted-behindthehype.blogspot.com) for all the latest news.
Can you tell me about what else you are doing in the future?
Definitely doing more shows, and future projects under the MW Collective. Right now we’re working on something rather big that
we can’t talk about just yet, but you’ll definitely hear about it soon enough 😉
How did you get into curating vinyl toy shows?
The “Most Wanted: Behind the Hype” show was the first show I’ve curated, and that came together thanks to my buddy & fellow curator, James Brown. We have been talking about doing something involving the MW Collective for sometime now and when he presented me with a possible set date at the 1AM Gallery, I couldn’t pass it up. I remembered the amazing 3A custom toy show he put together last year and I absolutely loved the layout. We put together a really cool show I was proud to be a part of, and I can’t wait to start on the next one!
Bio: Manny has always been a lover of all things artistic. From toys to fine art, he believes every step taken to create something new is a work of art no matter the medium. His love of art and keen eye for talent led him to co-create the “Most Wanted” (MW) Artist Collective back in 2009. Striving to discover and work with some of the most talented up and comers in the designer & custom toy scene, he’s working hard to bridge that gap between established and indie artists alike.
Stay tuned for upcoming toy shows at 1AM.
